Newsletter Region 29 North Wales and Shropshire
Welcome to our Newsletter for Region 29 of the H-GRCGB.
We thought it might be a good time to remind everyone about the Newsletter and the Harleyquin write up that the Region does, as these are the two main ways of sharing information with you, apart from the day to day stuff (very important stuff though!) on Facebook.
For those of you who are new to the Club, this Newsletter is a local bi-monthly update which falls between the bi-monthly national Harleyquin magazine. Where the ‘Quin focuses on what we have been up to over the preceding two months, this newsletter gives a general update on what is happening in the Region.
The write up for the Quin is submitted 6-8 weeks before it is printed, so there it is always a look back at what we have been doing. We mention that because we have been asked, “why wasn’t such and such in the Quin?” It’ll be because it happened after the submission date. OR it might be because we didn’t know about it!
Reminder of the publishing dates
Local R29 Newsletter Issued Beginning July
R29 write up for the Quin sent in to the editor – 1st July (covering the months of May and June) then Quin received by members – 2nd week August
So the next R29 write up for the Quin will be submitted 1st October and will cover August and September.
The first rule of getting something into the ’Quin is to let Glyn and Trish (or any of the committee) know about it. Give us the details and we will write it up for you if needed, but we do like to have it in your own words.
Second rule would be to save some of your best photos for the article – it’s great to see a photo in the magazine that hasn’t already been seen on Facebook. Email us at;
You can submit something as part of the Region write-up; or as a stand-alone article for the magazine. So Part Two of Al and Ruth Lloyd’s North American Tour is part of our Region write up this time , but also our members have submitted two stand-alone articles – Neal and Gill Benting’s US Coast to Coast and Ricard Pryce’s Importer of Harleys. We cannot confirm if or when they will be printed, as it’s up to the national editor, but we usually do pretty well at getting things accepted. Watch that space!
Regional Meets and Events
The national committee held its regular (online) meeting on 5th July and concluded that although the Pubs and Restaurants are opening up, authorised and supported H-DRCGB Meets and ride-Outs are not approved. This is due to protect the health of the members, particularly when social distancing cannot be guaranteed.
You will have seen on our own Facebook page that some members are getting out and about and of course we are welcome to attend, but note; these are not supported H-DRCGB events so do at your own risk.
Please maintain social distancing as per national legislation, whatever you are taking part in.
As soon as we do restart the Meets, we will post on R29 Facebook, our own website and in the R29 section of the Club website. But just so new members know when to expect them, here are the times
First Thursday of the Month; Shropshire Meet at The Wingfield arms, Montford Bridge at 7pmish.
Second Sunday of the month; New North West Wales Coast Meet at Bryn Arms, Coed-Y-Llwyn, Near Gellilydan, Blaenau Ffestiniog LL41 4EN at 12ish.
Third Sunday of the Month: North Wales Meet at the Swan Inn, Swan Ln, Gwernymynydd, Mold CH7 4AT at 7pmish .
Also, watch out for a South Shropshire Meet on a Saturday to be held monthly at the Ludlow Brewery – Chris Alker will confirm details.
Those in the area who used to go to the Bike Night at The Tiddly in Ellerdine Heath on a Wednesday evening, NOTE: this is being held at The Yorkshire House now, as The Tiddly is not reopening yet.
We cannot confirm any rallies or camping events as yet, and The Ring camping weekend on Anglesey in August is cancelled – but we remain hopeful that we can get together before the end of the warm weather.
Your Committee – we are all still available via FB Messenger or please feel free to phone/text us directly.
